Amsterdam

I went to Amsterdam with my wife last week for a short city break (3 nights). It's a very interesting city, lots of things going on all the time; a real 24 hour city. As far as photo opportunities go I wasn't presented with many and only took about 50 the whole time that we were there. The main problem was the sea of cars that were lined up infront of virtually all of the houses, probably parked up because driving around the place looked particularly nightmarish.

I was trying the whole time we were there to try and get a shot that showed off the weird houses that the people of Amsterdam live in, they're weird because the generally lean forward quite a lot. This was due to the fact that most of them were built as warehouses, there would be a winch at the top of the building (still there on most of the houses) that they would use to lift the goods up with, the angle would mean that the goods wouldn't crash into the side of the house on the way up.

Probably one of the most interesting sites in the city, apart from the red light distrct, was the Magere Brug which is one of the most famous daouble draw bridges. We actually saw the bridge in its up position at one point where a huge barge passed under it.

Here is a link to the gallery on my website which contains all of the photos I took while there.
